The popular weekly party Dutty Fridaze, usually staged in Fletcher's Land, will move from its regular venue to Hellshire Beach in Portmore, says promoter Wayne '2 Gran' Bartley.

"Dutty Fridaze will be heading to Hellshire starting this Labour Day, May 23. That will be the new home, Hellshire Beach, every Friday," he said.

Bartley says the idea to change the venue came about after failure to get a permit to stage the event from the police. This caused the promoters to put off the event indefinitely.

• Targeting entertainment events will only contribute to more aggression and crime, they say..

Dancehall fans islandwide are lashing out at the security forces for raiding and breaking up several entertainment events and are of the opinion that this action will only lead to more aggression in the society, and an increase in criminal activity.

The dancehall fans say that while they are concerned about the alarming murders and criminal activities taking place in the country, the security forces are contributing to its growth by taking away their enjoyment.
“Some of us lives are spared at times because we gone out of the area to a little dance or stage show and we don’t come home until daylight when it is much safer. A some entertainment we deh most of the time when we hear sey wi family or friend dem get kill off,” said Tamara of a Waterhouse address.

Tamara went on to tell XtraNews that the security forces can deal with things in a more professional way. “I agree that yuh have some man who a come a di event dem wid dem tings. If the police start to do stakeout and wait till di dance a done fi do dem search, people wouldn’t vex wid dem so much. It hot when you jus pay yuh money, go in a dance or stage show and police come done it,” she said.

"Lock off that, now. Nuh call nobody. Two o'clock is the law and we give you until three. When mi seh lock off that, mean me mustn't hear any amps or sound," a police officer ordered last Saturday night at Rendezvous, staged at Temple Hall Estate, St Andrew.

"Yuh want mi come pull the plugs fi yuh?" he added.

With that said, there was an exodus from the VIP area, and despite the fact that there was no announcement made, the persons in the general area quickly got an idea of what was transpiring backstage and soon followed suit.

However, it did not just end abruptly for many of the patrons, who openly voiced their disgust at the revived attempt by the lawmen to enforce the Noise Abatement Act. "A we the people fi get the blame because things neva suh bad under the PNP. Nuh unnuh talk 'bout unnuh want Labour (JLP)," one man argued.

When THE STAR team arrived at the venue at midnight, it was basically empty. A few persons dotted small sections of the large venue as the music echoed, trying to fill the void. When the selector behind the turntable played a hard-hitting song, he blurted into the microphone: "Yuh can imagine if the lawn did full a woman?"
